About Us

We are loved and recommended for our authentic Italian food, warm hospitality, and relaxed and inviting space.

Lupa Ballito is a neighbourhood Osteria where you can share in a casual family meal of pizza or pasta with a carafe of house wine, meet friends at the bar for a craft beer or cocktails, or dine on delectable shellfish with clients. Take a table indoors or out, soak up the vibe on Eat Street, and enjoy live music at the Wishing Well on weekends. We offer a casual and relaxed space and like to think that our menu offers lots of little things done well!

Daryn Bowers heads up the team at Lupa Ballito, along with managers, Chris Bowers, Spencer Jambo and Max Mahachi. In the kitchen, Zulu Mthandeni and Sibusiso Qwabe and their team have been expertly trained to serve up delicious Roman-inspired food. Our aim is to serve up delicious Italian food with generosity and authenticity, thereby transporting our customers to Italy. We embrace families and friends, with energy and warm hospitality, for casual everyday dining as well as for special occasions.

Proper Italian food is made with a lot of love and care. We go to great lengths to ensure we provide authentic Italian meals. From our pasta and sauces to our pizza bases, everything is made from scratch by our talented chefs. Our spaghetti and fettucine is made fresh, every day, on site in our dough room. Our pasta is extruded through a die cutter made from bronze, creating a rougher texture and allowing it to grip more sauce, resulting in more flavour.

The experience at Lupa Ballito is not limited to modern Italian food indulgences. With a warm and energetic vibe, our inviting bar is a great place for pre or post dinner cocktails or a pizza & a craft beer.

Our unique selection of wines and spirits ranges from the best-known brands to the quirky gems, offering something for everyone to discover.

Lupa is named after the immortal Roman wolf goddess who trains Roman demi–gods in the ways of their city. Over seven-foot-tall & with beautiful chocolate red fur, she is reputed to have eyes as silver as the mist. Legend has it that twins, Romulus and Remus, who were thrown into the great Tiber river at the command of their evil great-uncle Amulius, were saved by this great she-wolf who nurtured and raised them as her own young. Having grown strong under her guidance, the twins destroyed Amulius and established the city of Rome.

An authentic Roman dining experience is incomplete without a wood-fired pizza with a crisp base and a generous topping of Italian tomatoes and the finest mozzarella. Our pizza ovens are fired up daily and all our pizzas are wood-fired at 450 degrees celsius. Rumour has it that we have some of the best pizza in town!

Our ingredients are both locally sourced (from high-quality suppliers) and imported. Sourcing fresh, wholesome and quality ingredients are central to Italian cooking, and make all the difference.

We only use imported Italian flour, local organic freerange chickens & the finest veal we can source – all of which add to the authentic Italian experience.
